Houston Arboretum Family Session… What a dream!

Ever since the Houston Arboretum started having permit fees for photography sessions, I haven’t really been taking photos here as much. This family decided to go for it, and man was it so worth it. EVEN IN FEBRUARY IT IS BEAUTIFUL!! If you’re not sure where you want to go for a session with Amato, the Houston Arboretum would be a beautiful option with a small fee to pay. The light, the wild flowers, the green (even in the winter) is just gorgeous.

Where to go at the Arboretum

There are many areas to go to when choosing to have your session at the arboretum. For this family, we had grandparents joining us so we stayed in a general area so that there wasn’t too much walking. If you want more a more trail like vibe, multiple sections of the park will give you that as well as tall trees, and tall grassy areas. If you talk with your photographer about the vibe you’d like to go for, they should be able to help you choose which areas to take photos in. The nice thing about the arboretum is is that there are different areas that are generally close to one another so you can sometimes get the best of both worlds!

Parking at the Arboretum

The reason we ended up here was because parking at another park was absolutely full! The arboretum can get busy as well, but there are always people coming and going which helps free up spots. Parking is a couple dollars and you can either pay by meter or on the Park Mobile app. I encourage you to get to your photography session 10-15 minutes early so that you can find parking, pay for parking, and not feel rushed or stressed.

Trust the Process

Like any big city park, it can be busier. There is enough room for all of us and if you have hired a great photographer, they should be able to find a great spot with good light and make it work. Flexibility is key, but so is trust. These photos were taken and you never would’ve guessed that there were a couple other photographers with people around taking photos as well. Your photographer should also be able to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera so that he/she can document your family in a candid, fun way! If you are needing someone to help with that, I would love to be your girl as that is something Amato Photography is known for.

Thank you!
